When the note for Kate Couric’s March Harper’s Bazaar spread hit my inbox I yawned, thinking “oh good, another Good Housekeeping photoshoot for me to ignore.” I love it when my cynicism is dead wrong. To my very pleasant surprise Couric is every bit the high fashion diva – looking both age and station-appropriate in sexy fitted blazer and Louboutin pumps. The short hair was an excellent style choice for her. Tres Chic! See some behind-the-scenes action in the video below.

Pop superstar Rihanna ups her already soaring fashion cred with a cover for W February 2010. The singer is wearing a white dress from the Gucci S/S 2010 collection. This season designer Frida Giannini, who now owns the brand, has offered a line up of crisp silouettes with prints and embellishments that make me call them future classics. Though there is some color, the palette is far more subdued that last springs deep color suits and flowing dresses.

The collection is featured on another February cover – for Vogue China with models Shu Pei and Mirte Maas.

Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour was on 60 minutes yesterday and, according to reports, in an unaired portion of the interview the fashion maven revealed that she told media giant (so to speak) Oprah Winfrey to drop 20 pounds before her 1998 Vogue cover.

“It was a very gentle suggestion,” she said, laughing. “I went to Chicago to visit Oprah, and I suggested that it might be an idea that she lose a little bit of weight.”She added: “I said simply that you might feel more comfortable. She was a trooper!”

“She totally welcomed the idea, and she went on a very stringent diet,” Wintour said. “And it was one of our most successful covers ever.”

Later in the interview Wintour goes on b*tch about the weight of people in Minnesota – calling them “little houses” and asserts that people in the U.S. are more concerned over anorexia then obesity (not true). Perhaps Ms. Wintour should be less concerned about Midwest eating habits and more concerned about why after a mere decade Oprah looks relatively the same and she looks like a creature from a Tim Burton flick.

Earth Day comes just once a year, but these days it seems every day is earth day. Seriously, being “green” is so awfully trendy it makes one wonder how sincere or lasting all the hype is. But I suppose there are worse things that have created useless and empty and useless trends (see ripped jeans, baby bottles/pacifiers on grown people, and anything Paris Hilton wears/does/says).
