After just one savagely criticised collection, Lindsay Lohan has been dropped from the house of Ungaro like the hot, carb-filled potato Estrella Arch above clearly never eats.

The Spring 2010 collection that the tabloid star contributed to via “artistic direction” not only flopped critically, but caused stores like Neiman Marcus to drop the label from their shelves.

So perhaps the house thought to bounce back with a stellar Fall 2010 collection? Not so much. The show was a flavorless hunk of ABC fashion – even without an untrained, uninformed Hollywood starlet on staff. So without Lohan as a scapegoat the glaring spotlight falls only on the Ungaro design team… or the lack thereof.

How on earth did the PR team at Ungaro let this Linday-Lohan-as-a-Hoarder story get out? Especially after her debut as Artist Director at the legacy house was so coolly received. This story just adds to the trashy factor… literally.

I imagine her situation isn’t really all that uncommon in the celebrity world. While we common folk have to budget in our fashion, celebs like Lohan are constantly being comped, swagged, and gifted with all sorts of style sundries. It’s not a surprise that the stuff would begin to pile up. A more studious recipient of all that would be more diligent about clearing the stuff out – or at least keeping it tidy. But we’ve seen how Lohan has conducted her life in general over the past several years.

Even as the fashion world is still chortling at Lindsay Lohan’s debut turn as artistic director for Ungaro, the Hollywood starlet is expanding her reach into the fashion world. Lohan’s 6126 line, which originally offering just leggings will expand to include an entire line of apparel. I’m actually rooting for the poor thing. It’s taking a lot of heart for her to stay in the game despite all of the ridicule. And anyways fashion-types are fickle and change there minds with the seasons. Lohan may turn out to be a sensation a few falls from now.

After all, it isn’t her fault she’s a novice. If most of us fashion lover were given the chance to steer a legendary fashion house we’d fail miserably, too. Thankfully giving joe-blow that gig wouldn’t be a sufficient publicity stunt.

Kristi Kaylor, principal in 6126 LLC in Beverly Hills, and Henri Levy, chief executive officer of Los Angeles’ DNAM Apparel, which will manufacture the line under license, spoke exclusively to WWD about the expansion.

“We’ve had amazing success with the leggings line,” said Kaylor. “We have a great business with Neiman Marcus and several hundred great specialty stores. [DNAM Apparel] was the perfect partner to work with 6126 and grow it as a lifestyle brand. We’re launching the full clothing collection next year, and a cosmetics line, handbags, shoes, jewelry in spring 2011.”

Levy, whose company has produced clothing for Ed Hardy and Joe’s Jeans, said he was looking for “a feminine brand” for his stable.
