Just two years have passed since this striking photo was snapped and yet my whole world seems different. I don’t remember what exactly I was doing on this day, but I remember that this guy was the highlight of it. Few people are so bold with their fashion, and certainly not with their views on the cosmos.

While you won’t find me running out to buy her albums, I have occasionally admired Rihanna’s evolving style (directly opposite to my opinions of Keyshia Cole). The young performer has solidly put herself at the forefront of pop style culture and many are clamoring to imitate her.

But imitator BEWARE: Rihanna style – particularly in this shot – is not to be copied by just anyone. A skirt that short is highly difficult to work out. Even a lazy breeze could have the whole world what color your Thursday panties are, and if you’ve been alive for more than 3 or so decades this just doesn’t look dignified (sorry for the ageism).

Even on the 20-year old poptart, this skirt just look too extreme. Two or three more inches and it would have still be super sexy, but it would have also been chic. Oddly, if the skirt were tight-fitting it would look less dangerous. This cut, however, makes the skirt look like an apron – a SMALL apron. Continute to a look at a few more pics and see what you think…

If you’re an actress with a successful role you must need to have about 30 dress on deck to accomodate the seemingly back to back awards and luncheons and whatnot.

Pictured: Stunning “Slumdog Millionaire” actress, Freida Pinto wearing a golden goddess mini.

Now we all know about the Oscars, and the Grammys and even the SAG Awards. But the Directors Guild of America Awards is not one that you’ll often see on your favorite pop culture “news” rags. Still, the event drew out some of the season’s most in demand. It’s clear they’re saving their best for the Oscars, but one or two still mustered up some high style for the occasion.

Lisa Edelstein’s not really pulling the dress off, but the shoes are on fire!

There’s nothing terribly exciting about Marisa’s Tomei dress, but the bag and necklace make the overall look fantastic.

Terry Seymour. Take note ladies (and gentlemen) a trim figure will NOT always save you from horrible style – especially if you have the nerve to wear crimped hair in public!

Singer and Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson’s star was certainly shining yesterday at Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, FL. Despite being with months of the tragic deaths of her mother, brother, and nephew, Jennifer gave an amazing performance of the national anthem before the game. And she looked fantastic doing it. Her look was chic and celeb worthy, but still casual enough not to look ridiculous on the football field. The girl has come a LONG way from American Idol.

Kudos, Miss Hudson!

This unfortunate turn of events was soon accepted within my family and was never again mentioned in the presence of polite company.”

So begins the Website bio of artist Ray Caesar, whose work is an incredibly dark adventure into high style surrealism.

“Unfortunately the drawing continued to become somewhat atypical and aberrant and it was not long before it was impressed upon me that such images might not be suitable for public viewing.” Not sure if this is more cheekiness here, but from what I’ve seen in his art, it may very well be true. Caesar seems to have a fixation on dangerously young and painfully pale female subjects, of whom you’ll see more than a few upskirt angles.

But possible pedophilia aside (goodness, we hope it’s not so), we are enamored by Caesar’s exquisite depiction of fashion and interior style. The vibrant blue jacket in “Suddenly” below is amazing to behold – like you could reach out and touch the silk taffeta.

*Gasp!!!* Did she say colored? Yes, ladies and gentles, I did. I also said “negro” – which isn’t so maligned a term, but still has a rather stale ring to it. But before you get your PC panties in a bunch, note that by “colored” I was referring to the dresses… mostly.

The composite photo seen above was clipped from Netaporter.com, a Web shopping portal for fashionistas with pockets deep enough to buy looks straight from the runway. It’s certainly true that these vibrant colors are especially beautiful against golden brown skin and perhaps that’s why there are an unusually high ratio of black models in this collage. Still, I can’t help but wonder if black girls aren’t somewhat of a fashion fetish at the moment.

Vogue Italia’s “Black Issue” last summer was a smash hit. So much so that even after numerous reprints, people are still hawking $50 copies on eBay. The issue set the industry on fire and got people talking (more) about the general lack of melanin on the pages of fashion magazines and on the runways. According to some subsequent shows did feature a sprinkle more black models, but will the change be lasting? And what about print? Will we see more models of color on the Vogues, Elles, and Bazaar’s of the world?

The post-black-issue success of Ubah Hassan indicates that, at least maybe, we will. Ubah is the one of the newer faces of Ralph Lauren.

What you see here, my dear followers, is musician and fashionista Pharrell Williams. I, for one, find his simple white T, with poppy yellow sneakers ensemble quite chic. And to top it off, he’s sporting a scrumptious purple croc Hermes. Spectacular.

If you’ve an eye for style, or at least an open mind, you can appreciate this look. But, alas, in certain circles (read: the Black “community”) men who relish in the many possibilities of fashion almost always have their sexuality questioned. It really is too bad. And then so many black women wonder why all the progressive black men go for women of other races. Well… I’ll not get into that. Not today.

Click to see how one popular black blog ridiculed Pharrell for be a free fashion spirit:

From a post titled, “Pharrell’s Rainbow Status Almost Complete”

We’re just saying. It is very hard for a man in any line of work to justify yellow Bape Sponge Bob
Crocs and a purple signature Hermes Bag. Then, homeboy points at the sh*t like it didn’t almost blind us already. SMH. What it do, Pharrell?

Well. I suppose you can’t expect too much from a publication that owes their success to being the first to exposed a (pseudo)celeb sex tape. Sigh…

Extra tidbit:

Pharrell had this bag – the one he’s using as a footstool on what looks like a city bus – custom made. See him here picking up the lovelies from the Paris workshop:

I’m nearly speechless. Yes, my tastes of late are much more streamlined and simple, but I can still appreciate wild – when it’s done right! These Christain Lacroix pieces, on the other hand are just a scary mess! I am literally shocked. Obviously, garish&gaudy was the running theme: just look at the rug, curtain, and the puke-pink wall color in the background.

Lacroix has been among my favorites in the past, but this… Lacroix is in danger of falling off the list of the hallowed.

There were a few decent pieces among all the muck. To see them, click
