Holiday Party Outfit
Post Halloween and especially after Thanksgiving hits there is a constant opportunity for Holiday parties for anyone with even modest social and/or professional circles. It’s a great time of year to add a touch of glam to an otherwise mundane wardrobe routine. As you’ll see in the up-coming Manifesto, however, we at The Fashion Cult don’t support impulse are trend-driven shopping. Instead, pull together these five basic wardrobe staples to make the season stylish and special. Look created at Polyvore.com

Cocktail dress. Outside of your LBD (little black dress) your staples should include at least one cocktail dress. No need to get to glitzy or trendy here. In fact, keep the silhouette/color/patterns fairly classic so that you can keep the dress for years. In most cases this dress shouldn’t be overtly sexy. Holiday parties are often populated by family and co-workers, and it’s just not the time for uber vixen.
Precious Earrings. Jewels are more than appropriate, but best done in moderation. As with all other categories, our philosophy here is quality over quantity. That means that a modest pearl or small gemstone that is of high quality is much preferred to gaudy costume jewelry (which is quite trendy now) and poor quality gems. This is also a good occasion for heirloom pieces and others that have special sentimental value. Of course, keep it classic and you’ll wear these pieces year after year.
Cute Clutch. Clutches aren’t meant for being basic. For daily use a sturdy wallet or shoulder bag are better staple options than a plain clutch. So instead opt for just one very special clutch in your wardrobe. Something embroidered and velvet like this or perhaps over-sized and metallic. On a jeans and t-shirt sort of day you can vamp up your shoes, add this clutch and suddenly you’re having a genuine fashion moment. Then when holiday parties come around you don’t have to bring your whole look down with an inappropriate tote bag.
Bright & Shiny Shoes. A touch of red is often nice in a holiday look, but your shoes don’t have to be this color. A bit of sparkle by way of a glittery texture or jeweled embellishment goes miles to turn your basic dress into a festive frock. Another bright color or a high-shine patent leather also does the trick.
Special Fragrance. You might have a signature daily fragrance – and maybe a regular scent that you reserve for evening affairs. But the holiday season is the time to bring out that very special, very rare bottled of parfum that only gets used once or twice a year. The scent should be unique, a little bit spicy if it suits your temperment, and as high quality as possible.
