I love looking at street style blogs and on occasion I snap a pic myself. But I’ve notice that generally all the subjects captured look like they could fit a showroom sample size (I’m guilty, too). Certainly street style photogs can’t think that cuteness only comes from skinny chicks… can they?

Apparently, there’s at least one out there that doesn’t. Meet The Manhattan Project – a blog featuring smart street style worn by average-sized people. The blog is fairly new, so the library is still pretty small. See a couple faves above.

While it’s pleasing to see this blog in action, I’m afraid it’s not exactly progress. Segregation rarely is (if ever). What I’d prefer to see is street style blogger published subjects of all sizes. Hmm.. what’s that saying? “Be the change you want to see…” or something like that.

The last weekend of Summer (according to tradition) was a busy one in Atlanta. Besides a plethora of private BBQs and get togethers, the metro area was buzzing with local events, like the Decatur Book Festival; as well as national attractions like Dragon*Con.

Friday evening I braved the mind-numbing traffic for cocktails and good music at the Glenn Hotel rooftop. I was pleasantly surprised at how diverse the spot was – a rarity in Atlanta. I don’t just mean racially diverse, though it was that as well. The crowd was a genuine mix of varied generations, backgrounds, and styles.

Whether in platform stilettos or John Deer hat, everyone fit just fine in the late summer air. The well-attended but not crowded venue left plenty of room for patrons to enjoy the dance floor or just enjoy the great view of downtown Atlanta.

Naturally, my attention was drawn to the few moments of exemplary style. The sartorial standout you see below is Paul. I wasn’t planning on style spotting that evening, but Paul’s smart silk bowtie and Big Bird pin were irresistible!

Another weekend gone by in the fine city of Atlanta, GA. It was a relatively low key one for this style spotter, but I did step out briefly on Friday to Glenwood Park’s wine bar and eatery Vino Libro. I’d been to the spot before, but never on a Friday night. It was packed! A bit too much so, really. The cramps quarters was understandable and forgiven once a took in the atmosphere – and my atmosphere I mean two glasses of pinot noir and the slammin’ sound of Gritz and Jelly Butter.

Although the wine was good, and the music even better, the highlight of my night was meeting Matthew Weaver – a custom clothier, personal stylist, and all around cutie. Although the crowd was generally decently dressed, Matthew stood out as being one of very few with a singular sense of style.

Getting adequate blogging time is tough for a jane on the go. So please accept my apologies for not bringing the goods more often (stay tuned…). However, being busy means my style-spotting eye gets a considerable workout. This pas weekend there was much to see as Atlanta was the host to an incredible array of cultural offerings. These included concerts from Mos Def and Paul McCartney, the biggest “ethnic” hair show in the world, and numerous art gallery events.

One of my weekend highlights was attending an art auction at the infamous Eyedrum. Despite the sticky heat (90+ outside and no AC inside…), the crowd was good-humored and stylish to boot! Maybe it was the super-affordable prices on some really great artwork that got the guests going. Here are a few that I admired. Unfortunately, I was outbid on my favorite piece. Can you guess which one it is?

* Angus Galloway – Untitled

So I didn’t leave with any art But any event that involves a theremin is one I call a success!

A reprieve! Thank goodness for this little cold snap we’ve had here in Atlanta. It’s allowed me to hang on to my love affair with fall for just a bit longer. There are still great fall/winter clothes that i didn’t get around to wearing yet! Friday night’s chill came just in time for me to wear this long rust-colored sweater i’ve been meaning to sport all season long.

I went out to Castleberry for the art crawl but missed most of the galleries waiting on friends and looking for good parking. The highlights:

75mixedmedium, featuring artists Nagisa Higashida and Daniel Osborne (check back for a review).

Also, Photograms and animation by Scott Hall at Krause gallery

*reprinted from the blog at my silly Space.

Oh my, I’m jaded. I think it’s about time for a vacation, because everything around town just seems so blah to me these days. I’d been wanting see the Royal, a little (and I do mean little) hangout spot in the up-and-coming Castlebury area. The Sloppy Seconds party was happening there a few Saturdays ago, so I went to check it out. The results: ho hum. The music was okay, but a little on the “all the hits, Q100″ side (locals know what I mean). Klever, I expected more from you, but I supposed you played to the crowd. And a CROWD it was – it made for horrible picture taking. That fact didn’t matter much, however, since there wasn’t much style candy out that night. Here’s some of the few bright spots:

Unknown pair: cute clothes, bad pose.

Erin: Sweet girl, killer tat.

Kajuana: one of the night’s best dressed – dig the eye shadow.

Shauna: a bit on the plain side, but she wore it well. Plus, I’m a sucker for a Chanel purse.

Anonymous paparazzo: he needs to be in front of the camera.

I see now that my preference is clearly for mid-week parties. The same spot on a Thursday was loads more fun and fashionable. I wasn’t in shutterbug mode, but I did manage to snap a few

on the dance floor,

at the bar,

& in the loo.

Here’s to no 9-to-5, y’all! (for now)
