In Case you Didn’t Believe the 70s/90s Were Back…

On the Fall 09/10 runways we saw a lot of 80s influences. The tacky decade reared it’s ugly head in many collections – from Balmain to Marc Jacobs. But I think it’s safe to say that the 80s has had it’s final swan song… or perhaps I’m just hoping so.
Naturally, fashionmakers are now gleaning inspiration from the 90s. And just as the 60s – with all of it’s detestable tent dresses – made a big play while the 80s were all the rage, 70s style has come rushing back with the 90s.
Check out Laura Blohnika in a spread from Mixte March 09. That makeup just screams 70s disco and the jeans/belt are oh so 90s.
It’s almost too predictable. Is it contrived? or is there something genuine about the cosmos that makes us always harken back in 20-year chunks?
